Joe got home today from school to find the house filled with a terrible stench. It seems as if Gus got a bit sick (vomit and poop) and it was all over him and the inside of his kennel. Joe did his best to get the mess out of the house (used a whole can of Febreeze!) and aired out the house the best he could.
After cleaning up the mess, Jeff and I, took Gus to the Animal ER. After a few tests....it seems as if Gus had a bacteria infection. It could have been worse. We thought he ate a sock or something like that. So, we have some pills to give him twice a day. We also got him a small fence - like cage for the garage. We thought it would be best to keep him there during the day and not in the house.
It was a long day - and a few hundred dollars, but we feel as if Gus will be all right (in a few days).

Girls Day
I had a blast with Jenna today. No school due to parent / teacher conferences. Jeff took the boys and Gus out hunting and are planning to be gone until Saturday afternoon.
Jenna and I started our day by picking up her friend, Anna, and heading to Michael's to find some new beads for jewelry making. We also went to the pet store and got some food for Gus. After dropping off our bags (the dog food was smelling up my new car)...we picked up Anna's brothers and had some lunch at Culvers. After lunch we dropped the boys back at home and began our crafting! The girls do so great with their beading. They each made a bracelet and a necklace, while I made the matching earrings. I also made a bracelet and earrings for my friend, Julie (Anna's mom) for her birthday!
After Anna left I took a short nap before Jenna and I headed to Village Point to do some shopping. We had a successful trip to Old Navy, Bath and Body Works, and Claire's. I picked Jenna up some supper at McDonalds and then we headed to Walgreens to "The Red Box" - where you can rent a movie for 24 hours for only $1.00 each. I had never rented that way before...but it sure was easy and such a deal! Tomorrow we'll return "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" and "The Back Up Plan".
Now...it's time to head to bed. Jenna and I have plans to do our nails and clean our rooms tomorrow!!!

A beautiful fall day
It's been a very long time since I posted. Since the start of summer we have had many ups and downs. Our trip to Alaska was amazing. We loved every minute of our 3 weeks there. Everyone got to do the 5 things on their list that they wanted. We fished, toured many museums, camped, made camp fires, read books, took pictures, ate great food, visited family, the kids and my mom went on a helicopter ride (Joe even flew it for about 5 minutes). There is so much to write about I'll try to do it over the winter months...as I'm scrapbooking the vacation!
I was able to get together with my sorority sisters this summer. Another wonderful weekend with the most amazing group of women! Jen hosted this year. We spent time on her amazing (huge) boat. The sun didn't stay out for long....but the company and conversations were heart warming.
August 11 was the start of school. Joe started High School. Jack started Middle School. Jenna joined me at my school as a 4th grader. I love having her at my school. We have a great time singing during our early morning commute!
August 11 was also the start of Margaret's sickness. Margaret fought through pneumonia and Listeria monocytogenes...only to get pneumonia again and not be able to fight this battle. We lost Jeff's mom on Sunday, September 12, 2010. We were all heart broken at the passing of our mom, mom in law, and grandma. We took off a week to be in Wisconsin. The service was beautiful with a surprise visit from some of my friends from Janesville.
So, we are dealing the best we can. We decided a great way to help with our grief was to get a dog. Last week we picked up Gus, a yellow lab from a farm about 1 1/2 hours from Omaha. He's an adorable puppy. He's being trained by Jeff and Jackson. He's good at retrieving.
So, that's where we are at now.......highs and lows......life can be rough, but we saw such amazing support from our family and friends! We are blessed to have so many great people in our lives.

24 Hours
In 24 hours we will be on our way to Alaska! I'm starting to get an upset stomach over the packing and the traveling. I'm worried about forgetting something important as well as over packing. One checked bag per person and one back pack. I have a lot of first aid products, book, gum....I just wish it was tomorrow right now. Everyone is excited to hop on a plane to have some fun! I hope my kids will be have and not fight on the plane or while on vacation. I think they'll be too excited to think about fighting!
It was funny to watch our synchronized packing. I had 4 bags on my bed and called for the kids to bring me things in order. When someone didn't have a needed item, we stopped and took a break until the item was found (washed).
The kids have been playing well with eachother....I think it helps that I locked the TV in the living room. They are banished to the basement, where I hear barbies and legos being played with.
I'm going to try to keep a journal of our trip....since I'm not sure if I'll be able to update while on the road.
Keep us in your prayers that we stay safe.

Pug Pool Party
It was a hot day in Omaha today. We filled the pool up this morning and by the afternoon it had warmed up enough for a little dip. Chase loves water, so we had him join the kids in the pool. Here are a few of the pics I took. I'm still loving my camera. I took loads of pics today. I know there will be so many great shots in Alaska! We are so excited for our trip. We leave in 6 days. Joe returns tonight from his DC trip. I know he's had a great time!

Joe is in Washington DC

Joe awoke today at 3:00 AM to start his voyage to Washington DC. Jeff and I both got up with him. Joe wanted his dad to drive him to the airport....so I made some muffins. I fell back to sleep about the time Jeff got back from the airport. Joe has my digital camera and my video camera. I hope he gets some great pictures!
Joe did text me when his plane landed. The poor kid sitting next to him didn't handle the flight very well and got sick. Unfortunately, some of it landed on Joe! I knew there was a reason I had him pack 5 outfits for 4 days!
I've been busy folding laundry, ironing clothes, and cleaning the house today. This evening the PUGS arrive! Jackson and Jenna will be dog sitting for a few days for my friend, Jill's, two pugs. She and her hubby are going on vacation. It will be nice to have the dogs here - since we are missing the energy of our cat, Mr. Whiskers! Jenna has been busy cleaning and rearranging her room. Jackson has been a big help taking care of anything I ask of him.
This weekend Jeff will be doing the Des Moines / Hy Vee Triathlon. He's been keeping busy working out, swimming, and biking.
My mom and I are trying to organize our trip to Alaska. I think we have a bit of a plan for the first week.
It sure is quiet around here with Joe gone. I'm not complaining, tho!

Miss Ella Graduated
Our beautiful 18 year old niece, Ella, graduated from River Falls High School this past weekend. Although we had some rain, the energy level was high. We had a blast cutting up fruit for the celebration.

There was a chocolate fountain that the kids loved. Jenna made a mess of herself. She even had chocolate in her hair!!!

Jenna had a great time playing dress up at Grandma Gruber's house. Her cousin Anna joined in on the fun.

We were able to get the whole family in a picture.
